Ibrahim married with Hajar who was the daughter of Pharaoh (fireawn) and she gave birth to Ismail. Soon after, Sarah became so jealous of Hajar that she forced Ibrahim to send Hajar and her baby Ismail away to a valley on a small hill in Hijaz. And this is when Zamzam incident happened. Ibrahim died and was buried in the Cave of the Patriarchs located in Hebron, Palestine.

Ibrahim had 2 sons, one from each of his wives.

The descendants of Prophet Yabub became “Israelities” or the People of Israel. There were many prophets who followed from this lineage up until the Prophet Isa (Jesus).

However, there was no prophet from the lineage of Ismail up until Prophet Muhammad which means he was neither a Jew nor a Christian but was Hanif, one who was true in faith.

There were thousands of years of difference between Prophet Ismail and Prophet Muhammad. The descendants of Ismail were not Arab and according to historians, they were “Arabized-Arab”, meaning they moved to Arabia from outside and learned the language and traditions.

Adnan is regarded as a traditional ancestor of “Adnanites Arab” and his ancestry can be traced back to Ismail. The link between him and Ismail was agreed upon by the historians but most did not agree about the number of ancestors between him and Ismail. Most Muslim scholars refused any attempt to recite the ancestors between Adnan to Ismail.

Prophet Muhammad belonged to a clan known as “Banu Hashim” from his great grandfather Hashim. Banu Hashim in turn belonged to the tribe called “Quraysh” which was originated by the Fihr ibn Malik.
